When the preliminary inquiry into the discovery of the 133 pounds of marijuana aboard the army’s flagship resumed before Senior Magistrate Maxwell Edwards yesterday, the prosecution tendered the caution statements that were allegedly given by the defendants.

Defence counsel Vic Puran objected to the statements being tendered citing several grounds. Police Inspector Norris Riddle concluded his evidence-in-chief and was cross-examined by Puran. Riddle is one of the investigating ranks in the case.

The hearing is set to continue on September 26.

State counsel Simone Bullen and Paula Gilford are appearing as prosecutors while Puran is representing both defendants.

Ex-soldiers Wayne Inniss and Shandy Stephens were jointly charged on July 16 with conspiracy to traffic in narcotics.

Inniss faces a separate charge of trafficking in narcotics.
