Executive Director of the Government Information Agency (GINA) Dr Prem Misir has tendered his resignation to President Jagdeo with effect from September 30 but he has signalled his intention to the government to continue working in Guyana.

According to a GINA report, although his interests are quite wide, his particular focus is on the academic field. And one of his options is the post as Pro-Chancellor at the University of Guyana, Head of the Presidential Secretariat and Cabinet Secretary Dr Roger Luncheon is quoted as saying.

“He has brought to the list of candidates an exceptionally good curriculum vitae and a track record.

“So he is under active consideration and the consultations with stakeholders led by the Ministry of Education is ongoing.

“A decision has not been made,” Dr Luncheon said at his weekly post-cabinet media briefing on Friday.

GINA reported that the Cabinet Secretary said the remunerative package of the Pro-Chancellor post cannot be favourably compared to that of Executive Director of GINA. Luncheon said further that should Misir be accepted for this post which is a part-time one, the government would have to consider some other substantive appointment “that would make use of his considerable resources” and afford him equivalent conditions to what he had enjoyed as Executive Director of GINA.
