The preliminary inquiry into the discovery of 133 pounds of cannabis aboard the army’s flagship resumed before Senior Magistrate Maxwell Edwards yesterday.

The prosecution led by state counsel Simone Bullen and Paula Gilford yesterday called detective constable Karl Jones to the stand. Jones will conclude his evidence in chief on Friday when the hearing is set to continue.

The hearing was adjourned yesterday following a request by the prosecution for a deferment in the proceedings. The inquiry had commenced last Friday before Magistrate Edwards.

Police corporal Patrick Carter testified at the commencement of the hearing. He was crossed-examined by defence counsel Vic Puran. Puran is representing both defendants.

Ex-soldiers Wayne Inniss and Shandy Stephens were jointly charged on July 16 with conspiracy to traffick in narcotics. Inniss also faced a separate charge of trafficking in narcotics.
