`Finesse and Style’ is the theme under which the Miss Guyana/World evening gown competition will be held this Saturday at Le Meridien Pegasus Hotel.

For the first time the evening gown competition will be held prior to the actual pageant night. The organisers say they are determined to be trendsetters so “the standards of all our events must be equivalent [to] those of international standards.”

The competition is expected to be in the form of a `black tie affair’ and it includes dinner, the actual competition and entertainment.

At a recent press conference the organisers stated that in the evening gown segment local designers will be able to showcase originality. The delegates will be judged on deportment, posture, confidence, fitness, suitability and originality of the gown.

To select the winner, scores from this event will be tabulated with those of the intelligence competition, `Guyana U Decide’ online voting, the introduction number on the night of the pageant, the interview segment and the final question online.

Saturday night’s competition is also a fund-raising venture as the pageant this year is more charity oriented. The event will be sponsored by Coca Cola, the official drink of the pageant this year, Courts Guyana Inc and Gizmos and Gadgets.

Tickets for this event can be obtained at the Le Meridien Pegasus, Courts, Gizmos and Gadgets, X-Cell, Bonny’s Supermarket, Giddings Pay Day and Pawnshop, Clairan’s Boutique and Hotel Tower.

The intelligence competition will be held on August 29 while ‘Guyana U Decide’ is slated for September 3.

The night of the pageant is September 6 at the National Cultural Centre and tickets are already on sale at $3,000, $2,000 and $1,000.
