Commissioner of Inland Revenue, Khursid Sattaur will be the new Commissioner- General of the Guyana Revenue Agency (GRA) with effect from September 1.

Sources within the government have indicated that an announcement on Sattaur’s appointment will be made in a matter of days together with other administrative changes to the revenue agency.

The GRA has been headless since former tax chief, Edgar Heyligar resigned last year from the post on a matter of principle. Sattaur’s appointment was approved by the board of the GRA and sanctioned by Cabinet, sources told Stabroek News. Sattaur had taken over the helm of the Inland Revenue Department on the retirement of Heyligar some years ago.

The GRA, a merger of the customs and Inland Revenue departments in 2000 to provide for improved tax administration, has not made public any of its annual reports.
