Senior Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle will decide on September 3 if a prima facie case has been established against Nazir Hamid and Yusuf Rahaman, the two men charged for the murder of orphan Raheem Abdool.

When the hearing resumed yesterday the court heard the reply of the prosecution to the submissions of the defence which maintains that a case was not established against the men.

Hamid, the former acting CEO of the Shaheed (Sad’r) Boys Orphanage and his employee Rahaman, called `Kenneth’, are jointly charged for the murder of 14-year-old Abdool who resided in the institution till his death.

Prosecution witness Ramo Duke, whose testimony has been reserved by the state for the High Court, was summoned yesterday, but failed to appear. Duke, 16, is missing and authorities have yet to locate him.

Paula Gilford and Simone Bullen are representing the State, while attorney Vic Puran is appearing for Hamid and Rahaman.
