A group of young Guyanese volunteers is currently building a website to showcase local writers and poets by publishing all work free of cost on the internet, thereby giving them much needed exposure.

According to editor-in-chief Imran Khan, the site, CanejuiceStand.com, seeks also to fill a void in Guyanese literary work on the internet. He said the website would be of quality and substance and would carry a multiplicity of views from all segments of the populace.

“CanejuiceStand.com will take the form of an internet magazine. We have already got commitment from a wide cross-section of writers who will contribute either weekly columns and/or feature articles on a host of subjects including politics, religion, education, sports, media, arts and literature.”

The site is being designed and developed by Mark Jacobs of VoiceofGuyana.com in collaboration with Devon Retemeyer of the iConceptsOnline.net web design team. According to Khan, all the members of the editorial team, with the exception of Mark Jacobs who is a USA-based Guyanese, are graduates of the University of Guyana and have a strong desire to see CanejuiceStand.com become a high quality website on which Guyanese can rely for views from all voices that are Guyanese or that are speaking on issues which are of relevance to Guyana.

“We are committed to ‘giving a voice to all Guyanese everywhere,’ which is our philosophy. We want to encourage all local writers to make full use of this great opportunity to get themselves exposure which, if pursued, can lead to either a part-time or even full time career in writing,” Khan said.

The website already has sections for a host of wide-ranging columns, poetry, photographs and sports. Persons interested in submitting feature articles, letters, commentaries, reviews, previews, opinion pieces, photographs, essays or any other material can send them to the editorial team at editor@canejuicestand.com or mimrankhan@hotmail.com.
