The see-saw Vincenzo Cantatore/Wayne `Big Truck’ Braithwaite WBC cruiserweight championship fight is permanently off. Braithwaite, the WBC champion, made the disclosure yesterday after receiving a letter from WBC president Jose Sulaiman.

Braithwaite said that his open letter to the WBC president which was published on internet web site fightnews.com may have ruffled a few feathers and resulted in the WBC president responding to him on Monday.

“They (the WBC) said that they were upset that I didn’t contact them first and advised that I fight the number one fighter.” O’Neil Bell, a hard-hitting 6” 1’ North America Boxing Federation cruiserweight champion, is the top ranked WBC cruiserweight fighter.

“The fight with Cantatore is off. It is out of the window. If Cantatore wants to fight me again he will have to come to the USA,” Braithwaite said.

He added that the date and venue for his match up with Bell will be worked out later but September looked a likely date.

The champion endured four postponements to his rematch with Cantatore, whom he defeated in October last year to become the second Guyanese world title holder.
