Italian TV execs and local boxing promoters staged a meeting in Rome last Wednesday to define their TV boxing schedule for the months of August and September.

After the meeting, it was announced that the much anticipated WBC mandated cruiserweight rematch between Wayne Braithwaite and Vincenzo Cantatore, supposed to be held on August 2, had once again been postponed. Italian boxing manager Christian Cherchi stated that “TV troubles and Cantatore’s personal problems” concurred to the new postponement. No new date is set as of today, but it is expected that a final announcement will be made during the WBC Convention in Moscow in September. Thus far, it is unknown if the WBC will allow the fighters to take an interim bout. In their previous fight, Braithwaite beat Cantatore for the vacant 190lb title last October in Campione d’Italia.

The postponements for the first fight dragged on for months and left both fighters inactive during that time. As the venue has yet to be decided, Cantatore gained home field advantage when Italian promoter OPI 2000 won the right to stage the fight in Italy by outbidding Braithwaite’s promoter, Vlad Wharton.
