The trial of the Good Hope trio, Shaheed Khan, Sean Belfield and Haroon Yahya was yesterday adjourned by Principal Magistrate Jerrick Stephney, the fourth deferral within the last two months.

Two police witnesses were scheduled to testify yesterday and tender as exhibits, the weapons which were allegedly found in the possession of the three men.

Khan, Belfield and Yahya, were held on December 4 at Good Hope, allegedly in possession of a large arms cache. The three men stand jointly charged for the unlawful possession of firearms and unlawful possession of ammunition. Belfield is also separately charged with two summary offences, being in unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Yesterday’s hearing, which commenced at 12.40 pm was abandoned in the presence of the three accused, their attorneys Glen Hanoman, Vic Puran and Nigel Hughes and the two witnesses, who were present with the exhibits. Stephney, after the witnesses ascended into the courtroom from the courtyard, where they had been waiting for the commencement, informed them that they had taken too long a time to arrive and called for the adjournment. This was despite appeals by the defence attorneys for the magistrate to reconsider his decision. This is the fourth deferral since May 7th. The hearing is to continue on Wednesday.
