Relatives of abducted Lethem hotel owner, Mohamed Khan, said yesterday they had no dental records to give to the Brazilian police for a forensic comparison of a body found near Boa Vista last Saturday.

They also indicated that they had received no further information on Khan’s fate. The relatives are adamant that the body is not that of Khan, even though Brazilian civil police think differently.

Two members of Guyana’s anti-kidnapping squad along with some of Khan’s relatives, travelled on Wednesday to Brazil to provide fingerprint records to compare with the body. Up to press time last night, the relatives had not returned.

Sources in Brazil had informed Stabroek News on Thursday that the records which the family had earlier provided were not adequate because they were sent through the fax machine.

Khan was taken off a 52-seat bus travelling to Manaus on June 22. Three men dressed in federal police uniforms ordered him into a car and drove off in the direction of Boa Vista. The abductors made contact with Khan’s family demanding $5M for his release. Four Brazilian police officers have since been taken into custody.
