Self-styled spiritualist Patricia Alves was yesterday committed to stand jury trial in the High Court for murder.

Acting Chief Magistrate Juliet Holder-Allen yesterday in committing Alves said the question of the state of mind of the accused is a matter for a jury to decide.

Police prosecutor Gordon Peters made his final submissions and told the court there is sufficient evidence to commit the accused for the offence.

Attorney-at-law Nigel Hughes who is representing Alves reserved his defence for the jury trial and said he would prepare a list of the witnesses the defence intends to call and added he will submit the list to the Chief Magistrate.

At the last hearing on Monday the Chief Magistrate had called upon Alves to lead a defence after finding that a prima facie case had been made out against her. Alves then declined and Hughes made his submissions.

Alves was charged on February 22, 2002 with the murder of Camille Seenauth, the woman whose body was dug up from a shallow grave in Alves’ yard on February 1.
