Guyana receives more deportees

THE Criminal Investigation Department of the Guyana Police Force yesterday announced that six more persons were deported from the United States and Canada recently for various offences ranging from conspiracy in trafficking of narcotics, manslaughter, assault, second degree murder and possession of narcotics.

The Police said Colin Lennox France, 47, of Lot 64 Hadfield Street, Wortmanville, was on July 26, 2003 deported from the United States for assault. The Police said France departed Guyana legally on November 30, 1993 for the U.S. On May 27, 1996 he was arrested and charged with the above-mentioned offence. He appeared in court and was sentenced to five to ten years' imprisonment. On completion of six years, he was released into immigration custody and later deported.

** Dabbie Singh, 42, of 34 New Hope Village, East Bank Demerara, was on July 27, 2003 deported from the U.S. for second-degree murder. Singh departed Guyana legally in 1987 for the U.S. In 1989, she was arrested and charged with the above-mentioned offence. She appeared in court and was sentenced to two years imprisonment. On completion, she was released. On June 2, 2003, she was arrested and detained by the Immigration who later deported her.

** Arlington Elgumdo Gibson, 30, of 220 Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara, was on July 17, 2003 deported from the U.S. for manslaughter.

Gibson departed Guyana legally on August 15, 1986 for the U.S. On November 13, 1991, he was arrested and charged with the above-mentioned offence. He appeared in court and was sentenced to five to 15 years' imprisonment. On completion of 10 years, he was released into Immigration custody and later deported.

** Roy Orin Smith, 40, of 156 Amelia's Ward Linden was on July 12, 2003 deported from the U.S. for possession of Narcotics.

The Police said Smith departed Guyana legally in 1979 for the U.S. In 1991, he was arrested and charged with the above mentioned offence where he pleaded not guilty. In 1992, he was found guilty and was placed on four years probation and five years suspended sentence. In 1995, he violated his probation and had to serve five years imprisonment. On completion, he was released but was detained by the Immigration who later deported him.

** Michael Andrew Hunter, 32, of Lot 224 South Road Bourda was on July 15 deported from the U.S. for conspiracy in trafficking of narcotics.

Hunter departed Guyana legally in 1984 for the U.S. On March 12, 2000 he was arrested and charged with the above mentioned offence. He appeared in court and was sentenced to three years imprisonment. On completion, he was released into immigration custody and later deported.

** Malcolm Gobin, 22, of 113 Pike Street Kitty was on August 5 deported from Canada for manslaughter. Gobin departed Guyana legally for Canada in 1994. In July 1998, he was arrested and charged with the above mentioned offence. He appeared in court and was sentenced to eight years imprisonment. On completion of five years, he was released into immigration custody and later deported.
