Bad manners war extended to December

After one month into the "War on Bad Manners" campaign, the Guyana Tourism Authority has announced a campaign intensification for the month of September through December.

Highlights of the campaign include:

** A National Essay Competition

** A Calypso Song Contest

** A Courtesy Week motorcade

** Motor Courtesy Week Campaign

The essay competition is open to the following categories:

** Children under the age of 12 on September 1, 2003 (200-250 words)

** Persons between 12 and 15 years on September 1, 2003 (300-350 words)

** Persons between 15 and 18 years on September 1, 2003 (400-450 words)

** Persons over 18 years on September 1, 2003 (Adults) (600-800 words)

The topics are:
** What can be done to improve manners in our schools.

** What can be done to improve manners in public places.

** What can be done to improve manners on the road ways.

** What can be done to improve manners in the workplace.

Prizes: 1st A Trophy + $10,000; 2nd - A trophy + $6,000; 3rd - A trophy + $4,000

Rules: Essays must be the original, unaided work of the contestant

Essays submitted by persons under 18 must be signed by their parent or teacher as being the child's unaided work.

Please attach to your entry a separate page giving your full name, date of birth, address, telephone number (if available).

Each contestant may submit one essay only.

Essay may be handwritten, printed or typed.
