THE two ex-soldiers charged in connection with the drug bust aboard the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) flagship ‘GDFS Essequibo’ appeared in Court, again, on Monday.

On that occasion, Acting Chief Magistrate Juliet Holder-Allen set Thursday, July 24 as the date when their trial will begin.

Wayne Inniss, of Lot 130 Lamaha Springs, Georgetown and Shandy Stephens, of Lot 118 Dacama Circle, Mackenzie, Linden, are facing a joint charge of conspiracy to traffick in narcotics between May 1 and 11, this year.

Inniss alone is on a separate charge of trafficking 60 kilogrammes 681 grammes of marijuana by exporting the amount.

The Army dishonourably discharged both defendants after a probe into the find on the ship when it docked in Barbados, about two months ago, to participate in the Caribbean regional ‘Exercise Tradewinds’.
