ROSE HALL -- Residents of Rose Hall Town located in Region Six (East Berbice/Corentyne) yesterday expressed joy at the provision of a spanking new $3.6M Police Outpost to who they say are “very hardworking policemen and policewomen in the town.”

Speaking on condition their names were not published, several residents agreed that the new building would contribute to the lifting of police morale and a greater sense of duty in serving and protecting the people of Rose Hall and other areas under their jurisdiction.

According to Commander of ‘B’ Division Paul Lowe, the Rose Hall Outpost was in a deplorable state. However, when Commissioner of Police Floyd Mc Donald visited the location last year, he promised to have the outpost rebuilt.

Slowe told the Rose Hall residents that it was the service provided by the law enforcement agency, not the size of the building, that they should see as important.

“What we seek to do is to make sure we provide the quality and type of service that will please the residents of Rose Hall,” said Slowe.

Minister of Home Affairs Ronald Gajraj disclosed that the construction of the outpost is meant to assure residents of the pronounced presence of police in the area and to improve facilities for the ranks.

The outpost was funded by the Ministry of Home Affairs and land was made available by the Region in conjunction with the municipality.

Commissioner Mc Donald told the gathering that Rose Hall is a thriving community and promised residents that the GPF would constant security and be actively involved with the community.

He also challenged the ranks to be ambassadors of the GPF.

“Your job here is to provide safety and security to the residents of Rose Hall and its immediate environs,” said Mc Donald.

The daughter of late Constable Ramphall Pardat cut the ribbon to officially declare the outpost opened.

Ramphall 52, and Constable Outar Kissoon, 46, were killed at the (old) Rose Hall Police Outpost when a gang of six heavily-armed men launched a gun attack on them on June 21, 2002.

A glimpse into the history book shows that Rose Hall Town was purchased by Henry John Baird on August 15, 1842. An on August 26 of that same year, Baird sold it to 57 shareholders whose names were listed on a concrete plaque.

In 1905, Rose Hall came under the Government Board as a county district and in 1978 became a town. (GINA)
