LETHEM businessman, Mohamed Khan’s body was discovered yesterday in Sao Silvestre, about 80 kilometers from Boa Vista, in Brazil.

The businessman was abducted three Sundays ago while he was on his way to Manaus. Reports are that men, dressed in Brazilian police uniform, kidnapped the 49-year-old hotel and supermarket owner and President of the Rupununi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI).

The kidnappers demanded a G$5M ransom for his safe return.

Late last night, Vice President of the RCCI, Mr. Alfred Ramsarran told the Chronicle that the Brazilian Police “this evening scooped up the skeleton of a decomposed body in a small village, Sao Silvestre, 80 kilometers from Boa Vista in the State of Roraima.

“The family of former RCCI President, Mohamed Khan has identified the remains and objects of the deceased to be that of Mohamed Khan.”

The objects identified by Khan’s wife, Linda, were gold jewellery, pieces of torn garments, footwear, sunglasses and a belt. Mrs. Khan, her daughter Natasha Macedo, son Junior, son-in-law John Macedo and officials of the Guyana Consulate in Boa Vista were at the Boa Vista Police Station.

Ramsarran said that Khan’s remains will be held by the Boa Vista Police for five days in order to complete investigations into his murder.
