Commonwealth Secretary General Don McKinnon has reiterated the grouping’s conviction that the planning of a conference on Guyana without the involvement of the Government of Guyana was premature.

Mr. McKinnon, who attended the CARICOM summit in Jamaica, said his conversations with President Bharrat Jagdeo and Opposition Leader Robert Corbin confirmed his apprehensions about the timing and manner of preparation of the Wilton Park conference.

Mr. McKinnon was one of the persons listed to speak at the conference, which was being organized by the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office, as well as the UK Department for International Development.

The forum was canceled after the Guyana Government said it was not informed and would have difficulty attending without an invitation.
