Guyana’s women’s cricketers were forced to walk-off the field against Jamaica in their final round clash of the West Indies women’s cricket competition, the Jamaica Observer has reported.

According to the report, Guyana’s coach Vibert Johnson “ordered his players off the field because he said his team acquired the revised target set by umpires in their match against Jamaica.”

The disputed encounter saw Jamaica batting first and scoring 107 for six in 43 overs before rain forced the players off the field.

The report stated that “Guyana went in to bat under the impression that they had a revised target of 80 in 34 overs.”

But after reaching that target in just 32 overs, batswoman Onica Wallerson was run out for 14.

Guyanese officials then stated that the run out was invalid, since they had already reached their target, the Jamaican Observer reported.

But Jamaican umpire Glenroy Johnson said no such information was given out and that the target was 108 in 43 overs.

The Guyanese players refused to take the field and play was called off with Guyana 80 for five wickets from 32.3 overs.

Meanwhile no outright winner of the tournament has been declared after the completion of the final rounds.

The two teams in contention Trinidad and St Lucia await a committee’s ruling on the disputed match between Trinidad and Tobago and Grenada.

That match also ended in dispute with Grenada refusing to take the field citing unsuitable playing conditions.

Batting first, Grenada were dismissed for 115 in 44 overs. The rain came down during the lunch period, forcing a long delay to the second half of play.

Grenada said the field conditions of the outfield were not suitable for play and the team refused to take the field. Officials subsequently called off the game.

Organisers said they would await an umpires report before making a ruling on the game.

The seventh round started with Trinidad in second place on nine points, one point behind defending champion St Lucia.

Trinidad needed to beat Grenada to secure the league title.

In the only game with a result, St Vincent defeated the United States by 10 wickets.
