Health Minister Dr Leslie Ramsammy yesterday reiterated that he had not resigned his position. In a statement, Ramsammy said he was unhappy with the headlines in the Stabroek News editions of June 10 and yesterday which respectively said ``Frustrated’ Ramsammy, other minister tender resignations’ and `Ramsammy confirms tendering, withdrawing resignation’.

In the statement, Ramsammy said in his conversation with Stabroek News on June 10 he reiterated that he had not resigned and that that should have been the end of the matter. “For Stabroek News to carry a headline in the June 11th issue that I confirmed tendering and withdrawing my resignation is unfair”, he said.

In a comment on Ramsammy’s statement, Stabroek News Editor Anand Persaud said that he was satisfied that the headlines in the two editions of the newspaper had accurately reflected the facts contained in the news items. Persaud said the newspaper had been told by several reliable sources that a resignation had been tendered by Ramsammy and withdrawn and in the conversation of June 10 with the Stabroek News reporter Ramsammy had not denied this. Therefore, he said, the newspaper stood by its reports.

Ramsammy in his statement also said it is unfair to say that his frustrations at the Ministry of Health were due to one person. “I have had disagreements and I have been dissatisfied with how a number of persons approach their jobs at the Ministry of Health. This would be true in any workplace. Thus, to single out a particular person is unfair to him (and) to me”. Ramsammy said he also wanted to repeat that he had never asked President Bharrat Jagdeo to remove anyone as a condition to staying on the job.
