Minister of Health, Dr Leslie Ramsammy, yesterday confirmed a Stabroek News report that he recently tendered his resignation to President Bharrat Jagdeo out of frustration but said that he has since withdrawn it.

“I have faced many frustrating moments over the two years but I have faced these challenges and would continue to face them,” Ramsammy told Stabroek News yesterday.

Stabroek News in yesterday’s edition said Ramsammy and another government minister had tendered their resignations because of frustration over the management of their ministries.

However, a statement from Ramsammy yesterday morning said the minister had not “resigned” and has “no intentions of resigning at this point in time.” He also stressed that he remained a “strong advocate for the PPP/Civic government’s policies and the leadership of President Bharrat Jagdeo.”

His statement was widely broadcast in the media.

When contacted by Stabroek News later in the day, Ramsammy did not deny having “tendered a resignation” to the President and having subsequently withdrawn it.

Stabroek News was reliably informed on Monday that Ramsammy’s resignation was withdrawn after an assurance that the person identified in his ministry as the key to his frustrations would be moved.

This newspaper also reported yesterday that six permanent secretaries would be reshuffled as a result of Ramsammy’s and other ministers’ concerns.
