Chief-of-Staff (COS) of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Brigadier Michael Atherly and Commissioner of Police Floyd McDonald yesterday visited the Joint Operations Centre of Operation Saline Solution Two at Cove and John Police Station, East Coast Demerara.

The two Heads of Service, according to a release from the GDF, were given an update on incidents which took place on the East Coast of Demerara, with Buxton being the prime area of discussion, as well as the actions taken by the Joint Forces since the mounting of Operation Saline Solution Two.

Discussions were also held on the current strategies in use and new ones to be applied in order to flush out the remaining criminal elements operating on the lower East Coast of Demerara with the aim of capturing and bringing them to trial.

The COS noted that plans are in place to provide opportunities for youths in the Buxton/Friendship area, who were misguided by criminal elements, to change their direction for the betterment of themselves and the community.

The two Heads of Service are also devising strategies and programmes in an effort to mend ‘fences’ between residents of that community and the Joint Forces.

Saline Solution Two is a joint Army/Police operation currently being conducted primarily between Good Hope and Paradise where a number of criminals have been killed recently and others are seeking refuge.

The Joint Forces have also intensified their coastal, air and backlands patrols, with specific emphasis on crime-hit villages and alternate evasion routes as well as sustained and continued cordon and search exercises during this operation.

Operation Saline Solution Two is yet another joint operation, which demonstrates the cooperation and cohesion that exist between the two Services and by extension, it is intended to create a sense of security within the minds of the residents who were affected by criminal elements and to build their confidence in members of the two Forces.

The Chief-of-Staff and the Commissioner of Police are therefore requesting the public’s cooperation during, and even after, Operation Saline Solution Two has ended.
