Guyana will be represented by a four-member team at this year’s World Swimming Championships slated for mid-July in Spain.

According to a source close to the Guyana Amateur Swimming Association, Orlando Thom, Asanti Mickle, Ronald Ying and team manager Stephanie Fraser will be Guyana’s representative at the World Championships.

Michael Watson first represented Guyana at the World Championship when it was staged in Australia in 2000.

Thom will participate in butterfly and free stroke events while Mickle and Ying will contest freestroke races.

Over the years local swimmers have done Guyana proud at the Regional level and, while they have not won medals at more prestigious meets like the South American championships, they have been recording personal best times on most occasions.

Thom represented Guyana last year at a meet in Iran while Ying benefitted from a six-month training stint in Trinidad and Tobago.

Meanwhile, a team of swimmers numbering more than 20 and including Thom, Ying and Mickle, are currently preparing for the annual Goodwill meet between Suriname, Trinidad and Guyana which will be staged in Suriname this year.

The meet is billed for mid-August
