Linden Bourne known as ‘Cent Ice’ was laid to rest yesterday and his family has made a formal report to the Guyana Police Force over his killing.

The dead man’s relatives have implicated a police officer who they say was the mastermind in Bourne’s murder.

Public Relations Officer of the Police Force, assistant Superintendent, David Ramnarine confirmed yesterday that a formal report had been made at the Sparendaam Police Station and that the force was carrying out investigations.

Ramnarine said that ever since Bourne’s relatives went public and made the allegations, the Force had begun inquiries. He noted too that the investigations included the questioning of ranks.

The police had earlier denied knowing anything about the death of the 26-year-old whose bullet-riddled body was found two Sundays ago on the Turkeyen access road.

Bourne’s family is alleging that on the night in question Bourne was at Spot Seven, a bar in East La Penitence, when a police officer, whose name was given to this newspaper, pulled up in a white car and ordered him to go home. Bourne ignored the officer, but later he left to go and buy a snack and the officer followed him.

It is alleged that he first received a sound beating and after that he was taken to Turkeyen where he was shot and dumped from a car.

Bourne’s mother, Yvonne Fletcher, said yesterday that since her allegations were made public, the police officer had been driving through her street almost every day asking residents for her. She said her son had purchased a shirt and a pair of pants from a man who had broken and entered a house and since then he had been pointed out as the culprit.

According to Fletcher, the perpetrator was later caught, and admitted selling Bourne the clothes.
