Local girl, Leanna Damond got good reviews after making her debut on the catwalk at the Vasco Nunez de Balboa Convention Center in Panama on Thursday evening.

Raking up a 9.5 score out of a possible 10, Global Beauties website reported that Leanna is “another unexpected and delightful surprise! Miss Guyana delivered a flawless dramatic performance, one of the best on stage.”

The fashion show is one of the highlights of the Miss Universe pageant where designers of the host country get to deck the contestants out in their best outfits.

According to the website, the show started 30 minutes late but was worth the wait. The ten local designers were able to showcase their talents and creativity and indicated that they could not have asked for be<<Selection in Document>>tter models.

An extract from one of the stories ran:

“For the pageant specialized press, it was the first real opportunity to see the girls ‘in action.’ There were positive surprises, and disappointing ones as well. For instance, Misses Poland, Turkey, Guyana, Thailand, Australia, Angola, among others, emerged as new favourites...

“Most Latin beauties are still too conservative for Miss Universe’s new fashion era, although some might have kept their real talent ‘in store,’ waiting for the competition to start.

“The most applauded delegates in yesterday’s fashion show were Misses Panama, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Peru, Thailand, India, USA, Israel, Serbia & Montenegro, Czech Republic, Trinidad & Tobago, Italy, Chinese Taipei, Japan and Angola.”

According to the website, out of 20 people interviewed after the show, 19 mentioned Brazil as one of their favourites, while Miss Panama got 16 mentions, followed by Serbia and Montenegro, Spain and Dominican Republic (13), Peru (11), and USA and Japan (8).

Global Beauties continued that in the end most people seemed to agree that the honour of best runway should go to Miss Spain, followed closely by Czech Republic, Turkey, Guyana, Poland, Estonia, Russia and Namibia.

The show was hosted by Aldo Stagnaro and Ana Gabriela Delgado. The website said that Miss Curacao and Miss Bahamas, for unknown reasons, did not participate in the show.
