The National Assembly yesterday approved the establishment of the Parliamentary Management Committee following a motion moved by Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Gail Teixeira.

This development coincided with the PNCR’s return to Parliament when the 8th sitting of the National Assembly was held at the Ocean View Convention Centre at Liliendaal.

This committee will consider and decide on matters relating to the National Assembly and such other matters that the committee may wish to consider.

The committee will report to the National Assembly on matters which it considers necessary for the attention of the National Assembly.

It will consist of ten members: five from the PPP/C, three from the PNCR, one from the GAP/WPA and one from ROAR.

The committee will be chaired by the Speaker of the National Assembly, and in his absence, the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly.

The Chair of the Committee will not have an original or a casting vote. A quorum shall be four Members, the Speaker or Deputy Speaker, two representatives of the Government and two representatives of the Opposition.

One member from the latter group must come from the Main Opposition Party. If a meeting is fixed and cannot be held because of the lack of a quorum, the Members of the Committee will be given 48 hours notice of the holding of another meeting.
