The police have denied that they have a report prepared by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) into the April 12 kidnapping of US diplomat Stephen Lesniak.

In a press release the force said that while it was cognisant of a joint investigation, which was underway but not yet completed, it was refuting Thursday's Stabroek News report which said that the force had been given the report by the FBI.

At his post cabinet press briefing on Thursday, Cabinet Secretary Dr Roger Luncheon when questioned about the probe said that a report prepared by the FBI had been submitted to the law enforcement agencies and was being discussed and assessed.

"I do know that a report has been submitted, the contents not known to me, but is the subject of discussions and assessment at the level of the law enforcement agencies.

"Perhaps sometime during the latter part of this week during the annual officers conference of the Guyana Police Force such information might be gleaned," Luncheon had said.

He had further appealed for time to allow the report to be properly digested and in the context of the police conference, information would be provided to the public.

Lesniak, the Chief Security Officer at the US Embassy, was snatched by armed teenagers from the Lusignan Golf Course and taken to the Buxton. He was later released after a ransom was paid.
