Members of the Fuzhou Chamber of Commerce in Fujian Province, China, are expected to pursue investments here in new shopping and market facilities, recreational conveniences, landscaping and botanical services.

These are some of the activities which are "anticipated to come on stream in Georgetown before long" following four days of intense bilateral discussions which Mayor Hamilton Green had in Fuzhou, where he also signed a twinning agreement making that city, Georgetown's newest sister city, a release from City Hall said.

Mayor Green who was accompanied by Waynewright Orderson, International Relations Committee Secretary and Systems Analyst of the council, visited the People's Republic of China as part of the recent state visit by President Bharrat Jagdeo.

According to the release signed by Special Assistant to the Mayor, Uhlan Leander, Green and Orderson have gotten an undertaking from the mayor and the administration of Fuzhou for "cooperation in economic, technical, educational, human resource and social development programmes."

An offer has also been made to Mayor Green by his counterpart for the administration of Fuzhou to assist the Georgetown municipality in its purchasing needs for equipment and supplies.

It noted further that in the area of human resource development and training, Fuzhou has undertaken to provide experts and expertise in city planning and landscaping, financial management and municipal administration.

Moreover, the arrangement would allow for hands-on training through the exchange and attachment of staff of the city governments of Fuzhou and Georgetown in the areas of garden and park management, food hygiene and abattoir operations, maternal and child welfare services, solid waste management and internet services.

And Orderson, who has responsibility for managing the Georgetown municipality's computer information systems and the Division of Information Technology, had discussions with software developers, hardware manufacturing and systems networking and communication companies in Fuzhou with a view towards acquiring cutting edge technology for City Hall, the release stated. He was also engaged in bilaterals with his counterparts from the Fuzhou Information Technology Department to examine possible areas of collaboration.

Fuzhou City, the release further said, has expressed a keen interest in hosting cultural groups from Georgetown, including steelbands, and other musical outfits, indigenous and other dancers, whilst making available for tours to Georgetown, acrobatic troupes, opera performers and Chinese musicians. Exchanges are also expected between libraries, museums, art facilities and parks in the two cities. Visits by sporting teams and coaches between the two cities have also been earmarked for exploration.
