The local organising committee for the 2007 World Cup has been formed with retired Major General Norman Mc Lean as the chairman.

The secretary is GT&T's deputy general manager and public relations officer of the GCB Terry Holder.

Other members are Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture Keith Booker, Advertising mogul Vic Insanally of Guyenterprise Advertising Agency, former managing director of the National Bank of Industry and Commerce and chairman of the now defunct National Sports Commission, Conrad Plummer, government ministers Navin Chanderpaul of the Ministry of Agriculture and Tony Xavier of the Ministry of Works and Opposition Chief Whip, Lance Carberry from the main opposition party, the People's National Congress. The committee has been set up to look at the possibility of Guyana hosting World Cup matches for the 2007 World Cup which will be held in the West Indies.

Reports indicate that the committee is at the moment looking at the suitability of a planned merger between the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) and the Georgetown Football Club (GFC). Guyana is expected to benefit tremendously in a number of ways once it is identified by the WICB to host matches.
