The two young men dubbed the “caring carjackers” appeared before Senior Magis-trate Melissa Robertson-Ogle on Wednesday and were each sentenced to three years in prison.

Nineteen-year-old Mark Scott of South Ruimveldt and 21-year-old Delon Forde of Wismar pleaded guilty to two counts of robbery under arms and separate charges of unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition.

The two admitted they robbed taxi driver, Brian Gittens and hijacked his vehicle last Wednesday and later gave him $500 to return to the city from a spot on the Linden/Soesdyke highway where they had dumped him.

They were reportedly nabbed the following day while sitting in an empty stall in the vicinity of the Mackenzie car park in Linden. The car was found abandoned along the Linden highway.

The two were later identified as soldiers who had gone absent without leave (AWOL).

Following their arrest the duo were court martialled and dismissed from the Guyana Defence Force.
