"It's give and go."

Those were the words of West Indies middle-order batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan when asked whether he will be ready to face Steve Waugh's mighty Australians for the first test in Guyana next month.

Sarwan damaged the ligament on the middle finger of his left-hand during a warm-up game of rugby with the national cricket team ahead of their final round game against the Windward Islands which ended on Monday.

Sarwan told Stabroek Sports he has been advised to keep the finger in splints for another 10 days.

"I'm hoping it will heal by then," he said.

If the injury does heal quickly Sarwan said he will be able to bat but will need to undergo therapy.

Sarwan is to return to Dr. Joseph this week-end after which a decision will be made whether to put the finger in a smaller splint, he told Stabroek Sport.

Sarwan, however will definitely be out of the semi-finals of the Carib Beer International Challenge tournament for which Guyana has qualified.

And he remains optimistic for Australia disclosing that he is continuing to run and keep fit.
