Local track star Aliann Pompey was not the only Guyanese athlete to produce dissappointing results last weekend.

Junior National champion and Archbishop Carroll’s Randy Lee, failed to make the finals of the 400m dash at the Nike Indoor Championships at the Prince Georges county complex in Landover U.S.A.

Reports reaching Stabroek Sport indicated that Lee was beaten to the first break and had to slow down to prevent himself from bumping the other runners.

Although he came back to win the heat in a time of 50.60 secs, it was only good enough to earn him 14th position overall, with the top six times qualifying for the finals.

Lee got two chances to redeem himself, as he was honored with two All American team selections when his team entered the sprint medley and the 4x400m relay in which they placed fifth and third respectively.

Also, not being able to produce expected results, was Defending NCAA Indoor Division One 800m champion Marian Burnette, who failed in her bid to remain champion.

After coming into the finals ranked number one with a time of 2:05:35, Burnette had to settle for third at the NCAA Indoor Track meet, with a time of 2:06:4 last weekend.

However, her six points assisted LSU to defend its team title and gather her, All-American Honours. (Candyss Odle)
