The National Table Tennis team which has been in training over the past six months is scheduled to participate in the Latin American table tennis championships from April 1-9 in ElSalvador.

Almost simultaneously, the Pan Am trials to select players for the Pan American Games in the Dominican Republic will be held.

Guyana stands a good chance of qualifying for the games and success will rest heavily on the shoulders of number one player and former Caribbean title holder Godfrey Munroe, overseas based player Jeli Lewis, Dennis France and Matthew Khan.

A source close to the association said that since receiving benefits from the PASO programme the players have improved tremendously and are motivated to doing well.

The source also disclosed that there is a possibility of the entire team not going to ElSalvador, because of the enormous cost (US$1,400) to send one player.

Sponsorship has not been forthcoming and the source said that the association has not been successful in their efforts to garner enough funds to send the team. The team continues training daily under the supervision of National coaches Sydney Christophe and Linden Johnson.

They face an uphill task firstly to get the funds to travel, then they would have to come up with the 'bacon' to qualify for Pan Am.
