The United States Embassy considers the move by CANU and the US Drug Enforcement Administration DEA to arrest the suspect/s involved in the murder of Vibert Innis as a case of extreme importance in curbing the scourge of illegal drugs transshipping throughout the Caribbean.

The Customs Anti- Narcotics Unit (CANU) in conjunction with the DEA has put up a $2M reward for information on the murder of Innis who was the former Deputy Head of CANU. He was killed by gunmen while picking up a newspaper in Buxton on August 24, 2002.

In a press release yesterday, the US Embassy noted that the mission of the DEA is to enforce the controlled substances laws and regulations of the US and bring to the criminal justice system of the US, or any other competent jurisdiction, those organisations and principal members of organisations, involved in the growing, manufacture, or distribution of controlled substances appearing in or destined for illicit traffic in the US. Its mission is also to recommend and support non- enforcement programmes aimed at reducing the availability of illicit substances on the domestic and international markets.
