A two million dollar reward is being offered by the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) in conjunction with the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for information on the murder of former Deputy Head of CANU, Vibert Inniss.

An advertisement in yesterday's edition of this newspaper asked persons with information to call the DEA in the US embassy, at the US toll free number, 862-1872 between the hours of 7:30am and 4:30pm.

"All calls will be kept in strict confidence. Reward to be discreetly paid upon arrest of persons involved," the advertisement read.

Inniss was gunned down on August 24, 2002, in Buxton, East Coast Demerara. He had stopped to purchase a newspaper when gunmen opened fire on him killing him instantly.

The fact that the DEA has joined CANU in offering this reward, suggests that the authorities believe that Inniss's death may be connected to his investigations into the drugs trade. Another CANU officer, Harold Duncan, was gunned down in front of his Agricola home early in January.
