A ten-year-old girl died yesterday morning at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital after being hit on Thursday by a minibus on the No.2 Public Road, Canje.

According to reports, Kinesha Thomas and another child were on the northern side of the public road at about 11 am when the minibus, BGG 6625, which was said to be speeding struck her down.

She was rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital but succumbed yesterday after she had sustained severe head injuries.

The driver is in police custody at the New Amsterdam Police Station.

This latest road fatality brings the count to five in Berbice. Earlier in the year Tamika McCalmont, 14, of Yeoville, Berbice, Bishram Baul, 14, of Crabwood Creek, Corentyne, Terrence Moore, 36, of Alness, Corentyne and Ravi Megnauth, 16, of Cotton Tree, West Coast Berbice died as a result of road accidents in the county.
