Last Sunday the Guyana Golf Team played beyond themselves to defeat their foreign counterparts by seven points to three to claim the first lien on the Raddison Team Trophy.

Under very good playing conditions, sixteen Guyanese golfers engaged sixteen locally based foreign golfers in six matches of Pairs Better Ball and four matches of Singles Match Play.

Guyana Team Captain, Colin Ming, was very appreciative of his team who played exceptionally well to defeat Charles Cutshall’s Rest Of The World Team. The competition began at 9.30 a.m with the Pairs Better Ball and was followed by the Singles Match Play.

Guyana took the lead in the Pairs Better Ball by four points to two and then sealed the match with a three points to one win in the Singles Match Play.

Colin Ming and Joe Solomon received the prize for the most outstanding win in the Pairs Better Ball. They defeated Farried Sulliman and Graham Pollock, five up with four holes to go.

Alfred Mentore and Mike Mangal were equally outstanding in the Singles Match Play. They defeated Bill Slater and Nestor Alvis respectively, also by a five up and four margin.

General Manager and owner of the Raddison Apartments Suites, Mr. Ian Wilson witnessed some of the golf and lunched with the players before the presentation of the prizes.

He expressed his gratitude for being able to sponsor the tournament and promised to be involved again next year. Members of the executive, John Tracy and David Cockroft thanked him on behalf of the executive and members.
