PNCR leader Robert Corbin has accepted the invitation extended by President Bharrat Jagdeo that the two should meet at a mutually convenient date and time at the Office of the President.

Informed sources close to the PNCR told Stabroek News that Corbin has suggested that a representative from the Office of the President and the PNCR should meet to discuss the issues to be placed on the agenda.

Stabroek News understands that Corbin’s letter reached the Office of the President yesterday and the Office of the President has confirmed its receipt.

President Jagdeo extended the invitation on Saturday as soon as he learnt that Corbin had been elected Leader of the PNCR.

In an interview with Stabroek News last week President Jagdeo indicated that Cabinet and the PPP were ready to engage the new PNC leader in talks as he believed the differences between the parties could be resolved around the table to their mutual satisfaction.

Corbin too has indicated his willingness to meet the President announcing at the post-Congress Rally on Saturday evening at the Square of the Revolution, his willingness to constructively engage the government if it demonstrates a change in attitude to the implementation of decisions reached during the dialogue process with Hoyte.

Dissatisfaction with the rate of implementation of these decisions was one of the factors that led Hoyte to withdraw from the dialogue with the President and the PNCR’s refusal to participate in the work of the National Assembly since March.
