Women Against Violence Everywhere (WAVE) is the name chosen by the group of women who participated in last Friday's gathering at the Cenotaph to protest violence and killings.

The group met yesterday at the Hotel Tower and a similar demonstration has been scheduled for this Friday at the same venue.

The group's message, addressed to Guyana's leaders, political representatives, law enforcement officials and criminal elements, is a cry for peace and justice and a better living environment for the nation's children.

Some 400 women including Minister within the Ministry of Labour, Human Services and Social Security, Bibi Shadick, PNCR parliamentarian, Deborah Backer and several persons from non-governmental bodies, supported last Friday's protest.

Additionally, the group managed to obtain more than 600 signatures for its peace petition. WAVE has received overseas backing and is in the process of garnering views and recommendations from its members. (Back to top)
