The English Football Association (EFA) yesterday delivered on their word when British High Commissioner to Guyana Stephen Hiscock, presented a promised quantity of gear and equipment to the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) and the National Sports Commission (NSC).

The High Commissioner requested that the gear presented to the NSC be distributed to football teams in the hinterland.

Speaking to Stabroek Sport by telephone yesterday, GFF’s General Secretary, George Rutherford, said the donation was initiated by GFF’s president Colin Klass.

Rutherford stated that Klass, while returning from the last World Cup, stopped over in England and held talks with his counterparts from the EFA.

The General Secretary said the talks centered around how the EFA can assist the GFF in the areas of training for its referees, coaches and administrators and gear and equipment among others.

According to Rutherford, the EFA agreed to assist providing the GFF write them outlining their needs.

Rutherford explained that because the uniforms received yesterday are not of Guyana’s national colours, they will be used for inter sub-association encounters. Just over one dozen Mitre balls and two sets of uniforms, along with a plaque, were given to the GFF.

The GFF received the plaque in commemoration of its 100th anniversary.

Rutherford said the GFF’s Technical Director, Brazilian, Neider dos Santos is currently working out Guyana’s needs and these will be forwarded to the EFA.
