The establishment of the Guyana Stock Exchange drew a step closer with the appointment of Cheryl Ibbott as the chief executive officer of the Guyana Securities Council.

The Securities Council will monitor the operations of the Guyana Stock Exchange that is expected to start operations early this year.

Stabroek News understands that Ibbott brings with her more than two decades of experience in the local banking industry and is expected to start work this week. Her office will be in the Bank of Guyana building where the Council has temporary accommodations.

Chairman of the Securities Council, Brian James told Stabroek News that the commencement of the operations of the Stock Exchange has been delayed because the various traders and brokers are yet to be registered with, and licensed by, the council.
