Police are asking for the help of the public as they continue to probe the death of Raheem Abdool, the 14-year-old orphan, whose body was found two weeks ago in a drain at the Liliendaal Rail-way Embankment.

The battered body of the boy, who was a resident of the Sad'r Boy's Orphanage in Kitty, was discovered on the morning of December 17 by residents of the area at Sophia Front.

He was clad in green long pants, a blue long-sleeved shirt and a pair of badly torn desert boots. His back bore black and blue welts and severe lacerations. There was also bruising to his chest and a small hole was visible on his left rib cage. Under his chin a few cuts were evident and his neck appeared to have been broken.

Following the grisly discovery one person in the area told Stabroek News that he saw a navy blue 4x4 around midnight in the vicinity of where the boy was found. At the corner of the drain where the body lay there was evidence that a vehicle's wheel had compressed the grass. The theory is that the boy's body was dumped from this vehicle.

The housemother at the orphanage told Stabroek News that the boy was presumed missing and that a report was made to the police after he had vanished.

Police Spokesman, Assistant Superintendent David Ramnarine, told Stabroek News yesterday that investigators had received several leads however these have so far not proven useful. And he said the police are encouraging members of the public to make contact if they have any leads on the boy's death as they continue their investigations. Abdool was laid to rest at the Versailles cemetery on Sunday.
