Three swimmers for FINA World championships

THREE swimmers will represent Guyana at the 10th FINA World Championships billed for Spain, July 13-27.

Onan Thom, who is now training in Trinidad & Tobago on a scholarship, will lead the team that includes Ronald Ying and Asanti Mickle.

The touring party departs on July 10 under manager/coach/chaperone Stephanie Fraser who will also be Guyana’s delegate at the FINA Congress.

Thom will be entering the 50 metres and 100 metres events in freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke. At 50 metres in the freestyle, he goes with a time of 25.27 seconds and 55.22 seconds in the 100 metres.

In backstroke, he has 31.19 seconds at 50 metres and 1:05.30 minutes at 100 metres. He has 32.17 seconds at 50 metres in breaststroke and 1:10.73 minutes in the 100 metres.

Ying and Mickle will compete in the freestyle and breaststroke in the 50 metres and 100 metres. Ying has 25.82 second in the 50 metres freestyle and 58.42 in the 100 metres. He has no electronic times at breaststroke.

Mickle has no electronic timing for any event and will have to start in the opening preliminaries, working her way to the final.

From the World Championships, the next meet will be the Pan-American Games billed for Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic.
