FIVE of six persons implicated in the multi-million dollar armoured car heist at Mahaica on May 29 yesterday made their second appearance before Magistrate Brassington Reynolds at Vigilance Magistrate’s Court.

They were further remanded to prison and are to re-appear in court next Tuesday, June 10.

The men, who are jointly charged with two counts of simple larceny each, are Keith Caesar of 43 Norton Street, Lodge; Mark McDonald of 43 Melanie Damishana Squatting Area; Neville Holder of 196 Kuru Kuru, Soesdyke; Moses Denhert of 28 Joseph Pollydore Street, Lodge; Godfrey Clarke Smith; and Rohan Khan.

Rohan Khan, for whom an arrest warrant was issued on Tuesday, June 03, is still at large.

The case was first called at the Mahaica Magistrate’s Court but was transferred to Vigilance. However, the matter could not be proceeded with because the prosecutor there reportedly had no information on the case.

Appearing on behalf of Neville Holder was Attorney at Law George Jackman, while Attorney Neil Boston appeared on Godfrey Smith’s behalf.

The men are charged with stealing $43,920,000, property of the Bank of Nova Scotia, on Thursday, May 29, 2003. The heist of an armoured car belonging to SECURICOR Security Service took place at Green Field Junction, Mahaica. The story reportedly told by the driver and the two guards transporting the money to Georgetown was that two “traffic cops” stopped the car and that while the “cops” were checking the driver’s license and vehicle documents, “seven armed men” suddenly pounced on them and took off with the money.

The accused are also charged with stealing a hand radio, one Nokia cellular phone, a 12-guage shotgun, seven 12-guage cartridges, one round of 12.38 live ammunition, among other property of SECURICOR.

Magistrate Reynolds said he could not hear the attorneys’ bail application since the prosecutor was not familiar with the case.
