Three more sworn in on Ethnic Relations Commissions

THREE more representatives of religious communities were yesterday sworn in to serve on the recently appointed Ethnic Relations Commission.

Taking the oath of office before President Bharrat Jagdeo in the Credentials Room of the Presidential Secretariat in Georgetown were alternate members, Mr. Roy Thakurdyal and Mr. Shafeek Khan, representing the Christian and Muslim communities, respectively, and member, Pandit Ramkissoon Maharaj.

They join nine others who were appointed members/alternates and sworn in on May 2 last. They are Dr. Frank Anthony, Dr. Rajendra Singh, Mr. Andrew Garnett, Mr. Carvil Duncan, Mr. Norman McLean, Mr. John Willems, Bishop Juan Edghill, Mr. R.K. Sharma and Ms. Cheryl Sampson, representing youth, labour, the private sector, women’s organisations and religious communities.

The Commission is a Constitutional body and will be the sounding board of the Guyanese society seeking to do all things possible to establish and promote better ethnic relations in the society.
