Indonesia to examine exploring non-traditional investment opportunities

Newly accredited Indonesian Ambassador to Guyana, Dr. Suparmin Sunjoyo believes Guyana possesses several potential areas for investment and cooperation between the two countries. In an invited comment, the Ambassador told GINA that Indonesian Companies could look beyond traditional investment opportunities offered by Guyana. He believes one such opportunity could be in the aircraft industry.

Ambassador Sunjoyo said he has been examining the possibility of a small aircraft operation in Guyana, which he said is good for Guyana and surrounding small states.

Sunjoyo said both Guyana and Indonesia possess vast experience in the forestry and logging sector. Both countries have significant forestry and logging industries. Indonesian-based Barama Company Limited operates a logging company in Guyana. The Ambassador said technical support from Indonesia to Guyana, in the area of logging might be forthcoming. He said exchange - training programmes should be reviewed. Ambassador Sunjoyo said there are also other ways of cooperation. He cited culture and sport as two possible ways in which there could be cooperation between the two states.

In his accreditation speech, the Ambassador pledged to continue working with the Government of Guyana to strengthen bilateral relations between Guyana and Indonesia. He committed himself to fostering new relations, especially in the area of trade.(GINA)
