POPULAR Guyanese entertainer, John Alli and his band „l Sadiek and De Sugar Cake Girls’ are soon to make a big hit in the entertainment arena with the launching of their first CD titled “STUPIDY” and three racy music videos.

Alli said the CD and music videos will be launched with four hot shows - two in Region Four (Demerara/Mahaica) and three in Berbice.

The first big show is scheduled for Saturday May 3 at the Whim Community Centre Ground. The second will be held on Sunday May 4 at Bath Settlement Community Centre Ground.

The Region Four shows will be held on Saturday May 10 and Sunday May 11 at the Diamond Community Centre Ground, East Bank Demerara and Starlite Drive In Cinema, Montrose, East Coast Demerara, respectively. All shows commence at 20:00 hours and adult tickets cost $500.

The performances will feature a rich quality of original Soca Chutney music performed by the singing and dancing ‘Sugar Cake Girls’ - Shabana, Fiona and Kamla and their buddies, vocalists - D.J. Poopsie; Socca Raja and Dhirender Kumar.

They promise to have patrons “on their toes” throughout and leave them teeming with satisfaction.

Versatile Shabana, the vocalist who sang the lead song on the CD “Bassidy”, is expert on the keyboard, and D.J. Poopsie, apart from being the vocalist who sang the number two song “Wash de Bam Bam”, is also a drummer.

A former member of Canon Balls, he has had many international performances in North America, Suriname and Trinidad.

Theme song “Stupidy” is done by Fiona and “Bam Bam Bolarray” by Kamla.

All lyrics were written by John Alli.

Other members of the band are Neville Hinds - Base Guitarist; Emmo Alli - Lead Guitarist and Kiran Kelawan - on the Dholah.

There will also be guest artistes at the shows, among whom will be two talented five-year-old singing princesses - “Kerida” and “Shivane”, who are guaranteed to make a lasting impression, Alli said.

Alli, who first ventured out into the singing world about six years ago as “El Sadiek”, made his first big hit with “Abba de Witch” (then on cassette), and today boasts a collection of about 500 songs just waiting to be recorded.

With “Abba de Witch” still holding a cherished place in his heart today, it has won with prominence in a refined version on his first CD “STUPIDY” now being launched.

And what’s unique about this CD? “It’s the first time that Indian film-style music has ever been produced in the Caribbean music industry and yet, we have been able to keep all our songs original,” Alli proudly asserted. - (SHIRLEY THOMAS)
