ONE of the victims of the March 7 midnight fire which destroyed 19 businesses in Pitt Street, New Amsterdam, has received a cheque for $11M as insurance claim from the Guyana and Trinidad Mutual Fire and Life Company branch office in New Amsterdam.

Ms. Natasha Ganeshpersaud-Bahadur, owner of Temptation Boutique, accepting the payment from Branch Manager, Mr. Montgomery Robin on Thursday, expressed gratitude to the insurance company and promised to reinvest in the country's economy despite the great loss suffered.

Robin stated that while the township has experienced a great economic loss which caused many residents to be robbed of their livelihood as a result of the conflagration, the company has fulfilled its obligation in keeping with its motto, 'sound, solid and reliable service for over 120 years'.

Ms. Ganeshpersaud-Bahadur is the first victim of the fire to have received payment from any insurance company.
