AFTER meeting top managers of Guyana Water Inc. (GWI), the Government yesterday agreed to take several measures in an effort to bring relief to residents of Linden seriously affected by a water shortage.

One of the measures to be taken is the activation this morning of the Amelia's Ward pumping station, Minister of Housing and Water, Mr. Shaik Baksh said in a statement yesterday.

According to Baksh, it is anticipated that this pumping station will supply water to Amelia's Ward and surrounding areas.

He said the Government will be using bowsers and other types of water tanks to provide other areas with water.

He said GWI already has two bowsers in the area and arrangements are in place for a fire tender from the Guyana Fire Service in Georgetown to be sent to Linden today to assist in taking water to different areas. Additionally, private trucks will be paid by the Government to deliver water to various locations, Baksh announced.

He said, too, that the Government is trying to source at least two 250-300KV generating sets to be used to independently power the water treatment plants in Linden.

According to him, these water treatment plants will be able to supply various areas in Linden with water.

He said the Ministry of Housing and Water and GWI will be monitoring the situation daily and will be in communication regularly.

"We want to thank you for your understanding throughout this situation," Baksh said to Linden residents.
