The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) is advising all persons travelling to countries such as Hong Kong, Vietnam, China and Singapore that they are at risk for contracting SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) which has already claimed the lives of 60 persons worldwide.

In a statement, the GCCI said there has been six reported deaths in Canada from SARS and so far in the United States, 72 persons have been infected by this mystery virus although there has been no reported deaths.

The Chamber wishes to impress that unless absolutely vital, travel to the above named countries should be curtailed.

An American Airline jet was quarantined after some passengers began to exhibit symptoms of SARS. This disease has the potential of infecting people at an exponential rate.

Therefore every precaution must be taken to prevent it from becoming the latest National crisis, the GCCI warned.
